Legislative Council News

The ASHA Legislative Council met during the 2007 annual ASHA Convention in Boston, Massachusetts. Linda Gregory (Speech-Language Pathology) and George Purvis (Audiology) represented Kentucky at the Council and Assembly meetings.

The Vice President of Administration and Planning presented an update on the financial status of the Association and presented the 2008 budget. The budget was adopted by the Council with no dues increase.

Continued discussion of the new governance structure took place in both the full Council and Assembly meetings. Effective December 31, 2007 the current bicameral governance structure will be replaced with a unicameral structure. The Legislative Council and Assemblies will be replaced by new Advisory Councils that will report directly to the newly formed Board of Directors.

The Council received the final report on the new ASHA office building. The national office staff will be moving in December to the new location.  Check the ASHA web site for the new address and contact information.

George Purvis was elected to serve as Chair of the Audiology Advisory Council. He will also service as a member of the Board of Directors.

Should you have any questions regarding the discussions or actions taken by the Legislative Council, or issues you would like the new Advisory Councils to consider in the future, please do not hesitate to contact your representatives.
